Hi Matt, I recently did a weekend workshop with Matt making Flutes and took along my 11 year old son. I wanted to get a nice deep sound and aimed for making a 'B' as I am very tall and have large hands. Matt was very supportive and created a good space so that at every step of the way we were cautious about safety and what the next construction step was so that there were no mistakes. Matt aims by the end of the weekend for each participant to take home an excellent hand made flute from scratch. It was a success my son and I ended up with a beautiful flute each that family and friends were very impressed with. Matt is great in that he allowed each participant to work at their own skill level whilst still keeping a watchfull eye on the process to ensure a good end result. I can sincerely recommend this workshop for any one aged 11 and over and would be an excellent Father and Son bonding trip. There is also excellent ongoing support and a Flute Circle where playing skills can be expanded and contact made with other fluties. A friend of mine Sahayak was playing his flute one day when I arrived at his place, he let me play it and I was so taken by the beautiful feel and sound of it, I knew I had to have one. I first met Matt at a health expo in Bangalow some months later where I bought my first flute, a G flute made of Quandong with a sculpted finish. Matt also made me a stitched leather flute bag decorated with an eagles head, edge tassels and a green Torquoise stone closing catch as a special order- perfect for protecting my flute. The weekend workshop was very straightforward and not as complicated as I thought it would be. Matt fully explained every part of the making process and carefully supervised the trickier parts like turning on the lathe and the art of tuning. Towards the end of the first day, we had plenty of time to relax and even went for a walk in the tranquil rainforest some kilometres away. That evening we listened to Matt’s flute music, ate tasty vegetarian curry for dinner and I was looking forward to finishing my flute on the second day. On day two we carefully sanded our flutes and completed our “birds”, tuned the flute and finished off with a rich oil coating. Finally Matt cut our leather straps, We then “smudged” our flutes and blessed them so that they will always be instruments of love and beauty. I had a great time and was very pleased with my flute and was so satisfied with my experience that I also ordered a wooden stand for my flutes and I bought a beautiful deer-skin medicine drum (for which Matt made a wooden drum stick topped with a deer skin and fox fur trimmed bulb). I thoroughly recommend Matt’s flute making workshop. With Matt’s guidance, anyone can make a Native American Flute and have an extremely rewarding experience in the process. Jonathan Wills Matt, I have major shivers still vibrating up my spine and tickling my outer-auric fields. Hi Matt If your interested in making Native American Style Flutes Matt's 2 day workshop will teach you all need to know. You get to choose the timber, you learn to shape the flute, the sound holes, design the shape of the bird and tune the flute yourself. At the end of the two day workshop you get to take home a completly finished hand crafted Native American style flute made from lovely Australian timbers. I really enjoyed the experience. David Ginnivan.Brisbane QLD My Name is Manuela, I’m a singer song writer. I met Matt at the Peat’s Ridge Festival in 2005. Soon after I acquired one of his flutes. The quality and finish is amazing, I have found great new world unfolding through it. I also enjoy playing it at my performances and when I am meditating and often take it with me when I travel. I have just ordered a Low D Flute from Matt. I strongly recommend Matt’s flutes. Manuela Schnider, Sydney NSW Hi Matt, Just thanking you so much for this beautiful Hoop Pine flute which is an element of simplicity and beauty. Your devotion to excellence shows through in the craftsmanship of this instrument. It’s subtle enough to shift cobwebs in my mind and robust enough to play in a tropical gail, which I did in January at Coolum beach with a friend of mine. This is truly a magnificent piece of workmanship. Many thanks again. Russell Davie, Lismore NSW
